Across Queensland, approximately 37% of young people threatened by homelessness are recorded as experiencing domestic and family violence. In 2019-2020, there were 142 reports of family and domestic violence in Queensland alone.
These are devastating figures that many of Springmounts’ team have witnessed the real impacts of.
“We have a lot of work in Brisbane CBD in particular and our staff and management see first hand issues with homelessness at night and early morning when they are out and about working. We recognise this has been an ongoing issue, particularly with young people and we would like to help where we can.” – Springmount General Manager of Corporate Services, Alisa Buckley
Tonight Springmount’s CEO and senior management team will take part in the Property Industry’s SleepOut fundraiser by sleeping on the roof of Queens Plaza alongside other industry professionals to raise funds for this important cause. Alongside their participation, Springmount are also sponsoring the event, lending their voice and reach as a multi-state based brand to help address youth homelessness.
This year the Property Industry’s Brisbane SleepOut will be raising money for BABI Youth & Family Services, a leading youth and family services provider based out of the Wynnum/Redlands region. For 40 years, BABI has been responding to the needs of homeless and at-risk youth. BABI’s latest Housing with Dignity Project provides real support for youth as they transition into safe and secure housing, helping them to rebuild their lives.
“Homelessness is a major issue affecting our youth today. We believe that by supporting our youth it will help grow our nation’s future,” Buckley states.
Springmount has so far collectively raised $3,106. We ask anyone reading to help support us in raising money for homeless youth and help those less fortunate.
Every dollar makes a difference. Donate here to support the cause. Thank you.
